Latino Heritage Month is significant to OPEIU 29 for several reasons, OPEIU 29 has a substantial number of Latino members. Celebrating Latino Heritage Month helps recognize and honor their contributions, achievements, and cultural heritage, promoting a more inclusive environment within the union. OPEIU 29 emphasizes solidarity among members from diverse backgrounds and observing Latino Heritage Month strengthens unity among OPEIU 29 members by highlighting shared experiences and fostering mutual respect and understanding. This provides an opportunity to address specific issues and challenges faced by Latino workers. Unions can use this time to advocate for policies and initiatives that support Latino workers' rights, such as fair wages, workplace safety, and anti-discrimination measures. Many labor movements and achievements have been shaped by Latino workers. Celebrating Latino Heritage Month allows us to acknowledge and celebrate the historical contributions of Latino workers to the labor movement and social justice causes.
National Hispanic Heritage Month is recognized annually from September 15 – October 15. This year’s theme is “Pioneers of Change: Shaping the Future Together”.
